ABOUT THIS WINE:

Valley Oak Cooperage

Valley Oak Cooperage

Zinfandel

Valley Oak Cooperage continues to forge delicious wines that hold true to varietal character while showcasing the skilled hand of the winemaker. This classic California Zinfandel comes from the rolling hills of Sonoma County, where our local winemaking partners take advantage of this historic region’s various microclimates and diverse terroir to produce wines worthy of its reputation. Our Zinfandel exhibits the grape variety’s hallmark dark fruit flavors and modest acidity. The mindful use of oak was a welcome addition to this wine’s flavor profile and structure by adding notes of enticing spice and softening tannins. While this wine is a serious example of artisan winemaking from a quality region, it doesn’t require a fanciful meal or expensive glassware to appreciate. Serve this wine at room temperature, paired with a good book and your favorite chair. Scroll through the image ca ...

WINE REGION:

Outline of Sonoma County

Sonoma County

Many of California's world-class wines come from Sonoma County, separated from Napa by the Mayacamas Mountains. Three times the size of Napa, Sonoma is an incredibly diverse region. Cool coastal zones, fog-cloaked hillsides, sheltered valleys and craggy exposed peaks give Sonoma a vast array of terroirs and microclimates. Its many sub-regions produce a broad range of styles: from the bold Cabernets of Alexander Valley to the fragrant Pinots of Sonoma Coast and the sublime Chardonnays of Chalk Hill.

Blackberry

It is be no surprise that oak is an integral part of this wine. Toasty aromas of baking spice and clove contribute to a spicy aromatic profile. Rich flavors of ripe blackberry and wild bramble fill the palate with fruit, while soft tannins and subtle acid create a plush, velvety finish.

ABOUT THE BRAND:

large bunches of red grapes on the vine

Valley Oak Cooperage

The winemaker and cooper share a connection through craftsmanship. Both professions strive to stay true to the nature of their materials while pursuing a result that reflects the expertise and nuance of their craft. That moment when a wine first enters an oak barrel, these two worlds unite. The cooper’s skilled artistry and varying use of toast, along with age and type of oak, directly impact the wine’s flavor profile and structure. It is up to the winemaker to match each wine to the vessel best suited to achieve the desired result. Through the adept teamwork of these two artisans, the vibrant and complex wines of Valley Oak Cooperage are born. Valley Oak Cooperage was founded by winemakers with a singular passion for the grape, the winery has dedicated itself to perfecting the art of making fantastic Merlots. And if you bring up ‘Sideways’, with its famous scene attacking Merlot, practically every employee rolls their eyes and says the same seven words, “Hate the wine, don’t hate the grape.”
