Sentido Contrario
Maule Valley, Chile
Oak takes the lead in our toasty Pinot Noir
ABOUT THIS WINE:
Sentido Contrario
Pinot Noir
Our 2020 Pinot Noir features delectable layers of toasty oak influence, red fruit and spice. This rich Pinot Noir is the debut release from our exciting new brand. Sentido Contrario directly translates to "opposite direction." This name is a nod to Chilean horseracing, where riders race around the track clockwise instead of counterclockwise as they do in Europe. This brand plays into the idea that while Chile has been heavily influenced by European (mainly French) winemaking traditions, they have successfully established their own styles and carved a space for themselves among the winemaking powerhouses of the world. The Maule Valley is one of Chile's oldest regions and is home to diverse grape varieties and winemaking approaches. Our Pinot Noir shows off a fuller, oak-driven style instead of the lighter, fruitier Pinots you may have encountered. Enjoy it with friends, and never be af ...

WINE REGION:
Maule Valley
When it comes to well-balanced reds of great value, Chile's Maule Valley is hard to beat. The southernmost part of Chile's Central Valley, Maule is a large sub-region with many microclimates and soil types. The Maule River and the nearby Pacific Ocean both greatly influence its climate. Maule was one of the first places in Chile planted with grapevines. It is famed today for its 100-year-old Carignan vines and the densely sumptuous wines they produce. More typical, however, are its powerful Cabernet Sauvignon, spicy aromatic Carménère and plush Merlot reds. For whites, check out Maule's cheery Sauvignon Blanc and rounded Chardonnay. Chile’s Denominación de Origen (DO) classification system focuses on separating wines by the physical location of origin. To use the DO classification on a label, a producer must have pulled 85 percent of the fruit used in a wine from a defined regional location. The DO system names wine regions in the country from north to south.

TASTING NOTES:
Baking Spice
Oak
Cedar
Red cherry aromas join toasty notes of hazelnut and chocolate on the nose. Oak adds weight to the palate, where balanced acidity and tannin create a smooth structure, and notes of nutmeg and cedar inspire a warm and cozy sensation.
