McLaren Vale
Ancient soils, exciting varieties and unique styles define McLaren Vale. This region is the home to the oldest vines in South Australia and its birthplace of winemaking. Vineyards enjoy a Mediterranean climate, cooled by mountain winds and ocean breezes between the Mount Lofty Ranges and Gulf St. Vincent. Shiraz is the star grape variety, creating wines with soft textures and rich fruit flavors. Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache have also thrived here for decades alongside traditional white grapes like Chardonnay. Recently, local winemakers have prioritized Italian and Spanish varieties that are naturally well-suited to the familiar climate, like Fiano, Vermentino, Tempranillo, Sangiovese and Zinfandel.
