Colchagua Valley, Chile
A lively and aromatic Sauvignon Blanc from the “Napa Valley of Chile”
ABOUT THIS WINE:
Calcu
Sauvignon Blanc
The grapes for this refreshing wine are sourced from two vineyard blocks located in the Colchagua Valley, one of South America’s most promising wine regions with a growing reputation as “Chile’s Napa Valley.” These vineyards rest on the foothills of the Andes at 500 meters above sea level, and their soils have deposits of clay, silt, and gravel. One plot grows Clone 1, which is herbaceous, citric and fresh; the other is planted with Clone 242, producing aromas often compared to a classic Marlborough but with more persistence in flavors. A cold spring in 2013 reduced the fruit yield to produce highly concentrated grapes that were carefully handpicked at harvest. The particularly cool nights imparted a crisp and vibrant freshness to this Sauvignon Blanc along with hints of green apple, ripe pear, pineapple, and tropical citrus underscored by mineral nuances on the palate.

Colchagua Valley
Dubbed "Chile's red wine paradise" by Vogue magazine, Colchagua Valley is undoubtedly one of South America's finest wine regions. Indeed, many of Chile's best reds come from this dry, ocean breeze-cooled section of the Central Valley. Expect inky-dark reds made from Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Merlot. These wines burst with flavors of ripe berries and earthy tobacco, with a nice acidic balance thanks to the valley's cool nights. Don't underestimate the white wines, either, as Colchuaga's breezy coast is home to some memorable Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
