Alkoomi
Frankland River, Australia
A rich, tannic Cabernet-Merlot from a winery rated 5-stars by acclaimed critic James Halliday
ABOUT THIS WINE:
Alkoomi
Cabernet-Merlot
Honored by the Queen of England for his service to the wine industry, wine critic James Halliday awarded the Alkoomi Wines winery 5 stars—and after one sip of their 2014 Cabernet-Merlot you’ll understand why! This medium-bodied red has complex fruit, flavors of chocolate and cassis and a soft, satisfying finish. It’s a sought-after red wine from a region in Australia renowned for small-batch productions.
A warm, even summer brought early flavor development for the 2014 harvest. This provided the wine with an intense varietal profile without sacrificing the freshness of its natural acidity. Deep ruby in color with crimson flecks, the 2014 was picked in the early hours of the morning, soaked prior to fermentation, and then matured for 12 months with french oak. The result of this painstaking and precise process is a wine of complex elegance and smooth, silky body.

Frankland River
Often overshadowed by its more famous neighbor, Margaret River, the Frankland River region of Western Australia produces some exceptional wines. Flying well under the radar for many years, this fantastic region is home to some of Australia's oldest vines. Crisp Riesling and peppery Shiraz, full of fruit-forward flavors—but without the overpowering influence of oak—thrive in this region with its cool nights and long, warm days. In Frankland River, you will also find old favorites like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
