Low-carb wines

Low-carb wines are wines that contain fewer grams of carbohydrates per serving. They're typically dry wines with little to no residual sugar, making them a good choice for those on keto or other low-carb diets. Most of the carbs in wine come from sugar, so less sugar = fewer carbs.

What affects carb content in wine?

  • Residual Sugar (RS): The main source of carbs in wine. Dry wines have less RS and fewer carbs.
  • Alcohol Content: Doesn't directly contribute to carbs but can be a clue—higher ABV often means drier wine.
  • Serving Size: Standard wine serving is 5 oz (150 mL). Carbs scale with portion size.

Best low-carb red wines

Dry red wines generally contain 0–4 grams of carbs per 5 oz serving.

Best low-carb white wines

Dry white wines usually range from 2–4 grams of carbs per 5 oz serving.

Best low-carb sparkling wines

Sparkling wines labeled Brut Nature, Extra Brut, or Brut are your best low-carb options.

  • Brut Nature – 0–1g carbs
  • Extra Brut – 0–2g carbs
  • Brut – 1–3g carbs

Avoid: Sweet sparkling wines like Demi-Sec or Doux, which can contain over 10g of carbs.

Low-carb wine tips

  • Look for "Dry" on the label – Indicates little to no residual sugar.
  • Stick to 1–2 glasses – Portion control helps manage total carb intake.
  • Avoid sweet wines – Moscato, Port, and dessert wines are higher in carbs.
  • Don't be fooled by "organic" or "natural" – These don't always mean lower carbs.
