Explore a wine from one of the most revered names in all of French winemaking, Michel Chapoutier
ABOUT THIS WINE:
M. Chapoutier
La Bernardine Rhône Red
The blending of grape varieties is a characteristic of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. In "La Bernardine" red, Grenache is the main grape used in the blend, with a smaller proportion of Syrah and Mourvèdre. The Grenache is a grape variety that brings a natural sweetness to the blend, which gives the wine elegance, silky tannins, and great finesse. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation produces wines that are blends of different grape varieties; therefore, vinification depends on the component grapes and their varietals.

Châteauneuf du Pape
Rich, spicy and powerful—three good reasons why France's Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are beloved around the world. The Southern Rhône's largest appellation was the first in France to require production rules, making it the first AOC. While there are 13 permitted grape varieties a winemaker here can choose from, many of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's red wines are made from pure Grenache, with Mourvèdre and Syrah also featuring heavily. The climate is warm and Mediterranean-influenced, with hot days, cool nights and drying winds to keep grapes healthy. This gives the vineyards ideal conditions, aided by rocky soils and galets roulés stones, which soak up the daytime heat to radiate it back to the vines at night.
